Apple reduces the App Store fees for the ‘Small Business Developers’

According to the AppleInsider Apple has begun to roll out a new reduced App Store commission for eligible developers on Thursday. This initiative is a part of Apple’s Small Business Program. The eligible developers for this new program are the ones who earn up to $1 million per year by the App Store.

While the developers who earn less than $1 million a year have to pay 15% for sales and in-app purchases, and the major developers who earn more than $1 million a year has to keep paying 30% commission to Apple for sales and in-app purchases. Even though it was originally scheduled to begin on 1st January 2021 Apple has introduced this new program in November for some developers since the beginning of December.

At the launch of this new program its CEO Tim Cook said they are launching this new program to help small business owners to improve the creativity and prosperity of the App Store, and to build the kind of quality apps their customers love.

During this pandemic, many small businesses have started or increased their digital presence. By reducing commission, the small developers and the potential entrepreneurs have got more resources to invest and expand their businesses in the App Store. Form this they can improve their app and give good quality service to the users. Ultimately this improves the quality of the App Store as well.

This newly reduced App Store commission isn’t limited to the developers in the US and Canada but also it has been applicable for some independent developers in India as well.

This program as supposed to go live on January 1st, but the current status proves that there has been a change of plans.

According to the company, there are 1.8 million apps and half a billion visitors to the App Store every week.

This reduced App store commission will definitely result in a hike of number of visitors.
