The latest update for Chrome 90 lets you share links to highlighted text

You will witness a special feature in Chrome 90 where you are allowed to create a link through which one would be able to navigate to a part of a page you highlight. Last year, Google introduced this feature as an extension, but now it is has become an official part of Chrome. You are not needed to install anything to access this latest feature.

Suppose you want to direct people to a part of a Wikipedia page which talks about the filmography of Robert Di Niro, all you have to do as the initial step is highlighting that portion. Then right-click to select “Copy link to highlight”. The URL generated ends in a # and you could send this to anybody.  When the receiver opens the link, the specific portion you selected would be displayed to the person instead of the whole Wikipedia page.

To the people who prefer sharing random stuff with their friends and to the students working together, this feature could be immensely useful. The anticipated feature is rolling out for both desktop and android devices and you will have to wait a bit prior to getting access to it. Anyway, the feature is not available yet for the people who have upgraded to Chrome 90. When it comes to iOS, Google states that “Copy link to highlight” is “coming soon”.

The tech giant has launched a new PDF viewer for Chrome where they have introduced a two-page view. Over there, there is a toolbar letting you zoom, jump between pages and save and print with one click. The product manager of Google Chrome, Kayce Hawkins appreciated the efforts of the team pointing out that they have reduced the CPU usage of the browser. He added that the tab freezing feature for collapsed groups would be available soon and once it launches the collapsed and hidden tabs would consume less memory and CPU.
